NIE Astro Turf, 25-28th August 2008 -
In yet another exciting finish to the soccer ICG, PGDE 3C yr 2 pipped Diploma 2A 3-1 in penalties to claim the title. It was not only in the Final that penalties have to be adopted to determine the winner. Right from day 1 of the soccer ICG, many of the games were so close even up to final whistle and had to resort to nerve wrecking penalty taking. What could be the reasons for this occurrence? The standards of soccer between the classes were too close to call? Other reasons might be the short game time? Or even too conservative approach from the teams? What ever the reason, I can only say that it is all just part and parcel of the game.
Let us not forget to mention some of our fellow colleagues who displayed brilliant ball control and deft touches on the pitch which awed the crowd. And who says only the boys can play soccer? It was obvious from the games that some of the girls were also adept at the game of soccer and contributed much to their team.
Special mention went to some of the players who displayed fair play when wrong calls were made. This definitely expressed the true spirit of ICG.
All in all, well done to everyone who have made the effort to come down for ICG games so far, despite the late timing. Many thanks to Diploma 2A for organising the tournament. Even with slight glitches here and there, I hope everyone feel that we all have at least gained something from this ICG.
